How I Got Nick Marks To JV With Me…

Hello dudes and dudettes,

I recently did an ad swap with Nick Marks
and after Nick sent my ad out, I’ve got quite a few
marketers (on his list) emailing me asking how I got him
to send one out.
Some of you might never heard of him before but its ok,
you can read on for some info on JVs in general.
I’m not saying you WILL SURELY get JVs with people like
Nick Marks; I’m just providing some successful personal
experience in getting people, in general, to JV with me.

Start at the bottom. And this means starting
out as an affiliate for their product first. Promote
it hard, make some sales. And make sure you thank them
for providing a great product for your list.

You don’t need to suggest a JV there and then but make
sure they remember you. Thats one of the first step in
building a relationship. Starting at the bottom also
means going after the ‘lower-tier’ marketer. Not the
Ewen Chias, the Micheal Cheneys or the Jason James.

Start off with the lower-level marketers first and
establish close ties with them.

Building relationships. When approaching ‘cold’
JV partners, I always have these questions in mind.

“Who are you?”, “What do you want?”,”Whats in it for me?”
“So?, why should I bother?”. (Pretty much like trying to sell
a prospect your product) I try to have these questions
answered before even emailing them and I learnt that my
first ‘cold’ emails should never contain a JV offer.

Remember if you’re Sincere, people can sense it, even in
your emails. Treat them as how you would your ‘offline friends’
(you do have those right? :p) and don’t contact them only
if you’ve a JV offer to give.

I drop by my partners’ inbox quite often with just a
‘Hey hows it going line’. Relationships should
be an end by itself and not a means to an end.

Yours friends are my friends and my friends are your friends.

Here’s a nice tip I always do to tap into my existing network of
JVs. Whenever I complete and adswap/JV/cross-promo I make sure
I say “Hey, there this guy - Mr. JV that could do an JV with you
too, his contact is
balablah@whatever.com Could you point me
out Miss. JV because I really like to do some stuff with her.”
Be sure to have Mr. JV’s permission first before you do that :) Or something to that effect. This can get very viral and it
it is VERY effective because it is based on a friend’s recommendation.

Research your potential partner I receive JV requests
(and have ever made the mistake of doing that too! ) addressed
to ‘Chris’, ‘Cody’, ‘Kelvin’. Basically, names that are not my
name. I usually reply them because I get the kick out of seeing
them salvage the situation. LOL.

This is a guaranteed killer. Google your potential partners,
find out what sites they have, what they have done, whom they
have JV-ed with before.

Patience, patience, patience If you’re ever feeling
doubtful if you should contact that guy because you don’t
think you’re ‘good enough’ or ‘established enough’ then DON’T!

If you’re going to approach someone, make sure you believe
in yourself and you go in full of conviction, confidence and
with the right purpose. (building relationships first, JVs
second) Much like chatting up a girl, I’m sure that they will
respond better to a confident(not arrogant) and self assured
guy rather then one with sweaty palms and doubtful looks.

Right ladies?

Also, remember - your life, your business does not hinges on
just ONE JV partner! If you’ve tried your best ethically and
have given your best go but don’t see results with one particular
person - MOVE ON!

There’s many others out there.

Don’t dwell and don’t put yourself down! (”Man, I’m not going
get anyone to JV with me”)

Look, I started with NO partners and I did ALL the things one
should never do when approaching JV partners when I first
started out. So its ok to make mistakes.

But its important that you do the necessary course correction
as you move on :)

I hope you enjoyed reading this post!

  2. Hi Dylan (I think I got your name right.. :)

I like the post, even took the time to read it slow instead of scanning. Starting out slow, having patience, building relationships. All good advice..and we all know that ‘good things come to those that wait’, as long as we aren’t lazy and don’t let opportunities pass us by.

    Keep postin!

  3. Here’s another tip -

Before thinking about doing a JV, first BE the kind of person YOU would like to JV with.

Thanks for sharing, by the way.

  4. Hey Dylan… great info!

I’ve been thinking about doing more of my own JV’s… I’ve been lagging behind lately. lol You’ve just given me a much needed shot of adrenaline to get going again! :) Thanks!

  5. hi dylan,

I would agree building a strong relationship with someone you want to JV with is important before offering a JV proposal.

I sort of miss out the part on researching into detail. Thanks for enlightening in this post.

  6. Thanks guys, appreciate all your comments :)

  7. Sup Dylan,

Great post like always especially bringing up the topic of having confidence when contacting partners.

  8. Well said Dylan. A lot of new and aspiring marketers get scared at the prospect of contacting ‘The Big Dogs’ but essentially it still also just boils down to a numbers game.

There’s a definite ‘6 degrees of seperation’ thing going on in internet marketing, so you may also consider asking the potential JV Partner that if it’s not a good fit for them at this time (they may just be busy and their promo calendar overbooked), perhaps they could put you in touch with someone else.

You never know who you may be introduced too…
