Building a nice profitable list step by step…
Hey guys,
If you lower your head down 5 degrees, you’ll see my previous
post on the JV contest going on and how I was on the list.
WAS.
Anyways, I’ve got pm-ed, IM-ed, emailed…mainly congratulatory
messages but many of them were asking me how I did that.
To be honest, I don’t have a big list and many of the people
that referred fewer sales but sent more traffic have bigger lists…
…more prove that, while list size is important, it isn’t everything!
I’ve complied the steps I took to build a nice, responsive and profitable
list:
1. Build rapport. Give them free reports, give them quality content
and send them helpful resources. While you can’t see its immediate
impact, it’ll go a long way in building rapport.
2. Don’t overdo the freebie thing. While its good to give free reports
here and there, I’m seeing many list owners giving away reports after
reports. In time to come, they will become a ‘freebie’ list and won’t
respond to your offers!
3. Shine! I speak and type to my list like how I would to a friend. I chide them,
tease them, joke with them and help them. Don’t be afraid to show your
personality. Your personality and ‘voice’ is important and people online are
drawn to people who dare to freely display who they are!
4. Train your lists! Build rapport -> promote a $9 product -> promote a
$47 product -> promote a $97 product -> promote a $197 product. See
how the chain goes? You’ve got to slowly ‘train’ your lists to move up (to
buy) the ladder
5. TRUST! Once you lose it, you can’t get it back. I learnt that the hard way.
Be honest, be truthful and never promote something that you haven’t reviewed
and that you don’t think will work for your list!
Feel free to comment and add to the list!

Hi Dylan,
I agreed with you on all your points. But what I like most is to build rapport and trust with your list.
Having close relationship with your list is the most important thing every markerter should focus on.
Great post man!

Dylan,
You are one of the very FEW markerters who really help us newbees and it looks like you actually help everyone.
I personally like and needed the help your are so right if you treat this as a business and not a hobby and actually work on it each day it builds into a nice steady income.
THANK YOU AGAIN

Dylan,
I have been reading all sorts of emails and post and still I don’t understand how you guys get these list built from the start. Do you have to buy one or what? I took down my sites to revamp them, but even the hits on them are not generating any list. I would love to give away reports, but first you need a list. Can you or anyone else doing this give me the way to build a list from scratch?
Thanks.

Hey Oliver,
I understand your frustrations! But there is no *instant way* to building a list! I started from
scratch with ZERO subscribers.
I started building websites and blogs and started giving away free reports if they opted in.
I drove traffic to these sites and blogs through articles, forum traffic and PPC.
One you’ve build up a list of say 500-1000 you can LEVERAGE on that list and start to join giveaways, adswaps and things like that!
Hope it helped Oliver
Shirley: No, Thank YOU for being a loyal subscriber! I always believed in helping ‘newbies’. Because I can understand how
frustrating it was!

To Dylan Loh,
I have been storing your newsletter in my email folder and I have learnt news stuffs whenever I reviewed them again.
I feel so motivated as my fellow Singapore mate can accomplish his dreams, why not me and everyone else?
Your guidance and tips are truly valuable and I hope you can carry on doing as you are doing now. Appreciate your help and thank you!!

Dylan,
Thank you for the input, I will start doing those things. Let me ask how do you setup the opt in form and do you put it on your sites or in the articles and forums?
Thanks
Oliver

I agree with the issue of rapport and trust. This is very important to establish from the moment the visitor lands on your website. Rapport, trust and the willingness to sign up will be established from the content on the landing page and the free report/newsletter.
Thanks

It’s nice to read what seems to be sound
advice, and ideas for building a list.
Time to get started on mine.
Thanks, and keep up the good work.
