Hello, I am Dylan M.H. Loh

I obtained my PhD at the Politics and International Studies Department, University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Dr Ayse Zarakol, with Dr KC Lin as my second supervisor. My PhD thesis investigates Chinese diplomatic practices from 2008-2018.

I am also a member of the Public Policy and Global Affairs Division at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. My broad research interests include practice theory, diplomacy, ASEAN and China’s foreign policy. My peer-reviewed articles have been published in the Pacific Review, Journal of Chinese Political Science, Journal of Current Chinese Affairs, International Relations of Asia-Pacific and the Australian Journal of International Affairs. I have also peer reviewed for Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Pacific Affairs, European Journal of International Security and Journal of Global Security Studies.

I was visiting Pre-Doctoral fellow at the University of Copenhagen from September 2018 – February 2019 at the Department of Political Science.


Work Experience

I was research analyst at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies working for then-Dean, Ambassador Barry Desker. Concurrently, I was the country facilitator for the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (CSCAP) for Singapore, a regional track 2 institution promoting dialogue on security issues in the Asia Pacific.

I was tutor for the sociology undergraduate courses – ‘Social Problems in a Global Context’ and ‘Education and Society’ at Nanyang Technological University while I was research analyst at RSIS. Achieved the student feedback score of 90.18, beating the school’s average for the past 4 years.
